Grace Turner AC'18 :: Everything Happens for a Reason

Updated: May 3, 2020

Hi everyone!

My name is Grace Turner, and I am a rising sophomore majoring in marketing! I ran home to Alpha Delta Pi last year after one of the most challenging (and physical, if you deem running to a house in high heels exercise) weeks of my life: Rush. Everyone has or knows of the typical embarrassing rush moments that leave girls crying one moment then laughing together the next. Although my dress did not break and I - to my surprise - did not trip walking up any stairs, I allowed my personal negative thoughts to engulf what was supposed to be a positive experience. I am now a firm believer that everything happens for a reason; however, I do wish I could travel back in time to tell my sweet, freshman self to “get out of your head and get into that house!” Amidst the overthinking and comparisons, I found that house. For me, that house was one abundant with people who share similar values, inspire me with new ones, embrace what it means to be weird and, most importantly, are intentional with their words and actions. For me, that house was and is Alpha Delta Pi.

Once I stopped comparing my experiences and started encouraging positive thinking, uplifting myself and the people around me, and allowed fate to do its thing, I started rushing down a path of pure joy and empowerment. This path led me and countless other women to find our homes in the Panhellenic Community.

The moment I walked into Alpha Delta Pi, I felt a sense of home. Little did I know I was sitting across from a stranger who would later become my big sister and closest confidant. Kaylee, my big, reminded me of my family, and that is what made her stand out to me. Even though I do not remember EVERYTHING we talked about (sorry Kaylee I love you), I still remember the feeling that she left me with. I will always be grateful for that connection that brought me to my new home and forever friend.

Just let the process happen. Go where your heart leads you. Be you, and be confident. And, most importantly, remember that everything happens for a reason.
