Hi everyone! My name is Hayley Starr, and I am a freshman majoring in Telecommunications. I am from Stuart, Florida, and you can either catch me on a boat or at a luxury movie theater. Currently, my main priorities are schoolwork and ADPi, but I am also a part of Strike Magazine and will be a Dancer in Dance Marathon 2020. The University of Florida has been my dream school since the beginning of high school, and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to go here. Everything so far has been amazing, and one of the reasons why is because of Alpha Delta Pi.
Going into Recruitment, I had no preconceived opinions of any sorority. Before coming to college, the Panhellenic community was a foreign concept to me. During the week of recruitment, ADPi was always the sorority that stuck out to me. Every conversation I had was genuine and not forced. Even after hours of interviews and sore feet from walking in uncomfortable shoes, I was always excited to talk to any girl in ADPi. I loved everything about the chapter, yet the philanthropy of Ronald McDonald HOuse Charities and the authentic girls I spoke to were what truly appealed to me. I was not thinking about how there would be no house for a year because it did not matter to me. I will always remember one of the girls saying, "You will not look back on your four years in ADPi and think of a house; you will remember and cherish the relationships and memories you made." That statement forever stuck with me.
On Bid Day, I ran home to Hope Hathcock, who is now my Big. She welcomed me with open arms and made me feel so comfortable, despite being surrounded by 200 new faces. Hope and I are pretty much the same person, and I love her to death. She is just one of the many amazing people I have met. Throughout the past two months in Alpha Delta Pi, I have connected with so many girls in my alpha class. I am lucky to live in the Ivy House with several other girls in AC '19, and not a day has gone by where I have no hung out with them. All of the girls are so compatible with me, and we get along so naturally. I am so incredibly thankful and blessed that I have already found people I can call family.
Being a part of ADPi has already had a significant impact on my life. At home, I lived in a small town and attended a private school all my life. Going to the University of Florida was a huge change and something that was going to take some time to get used to, but any fears I had dissipated when I became an ADPi. UF feels like a home away from home because of the friends I have made. The girls in this chapter encourage me, motivate me, and push me to be the best version of myself. The bonds and trust we have with one another is so unbelievably strong. It is hard to express how happy and proud I am to be in Alpha Delta Pi, but let's just say I am more excited than ever and cannot wait for the next four years of my life.
