Hey Everyone! My name is Morgan Legare, and I am in AC’20. I am a Freshman at the University of Florida, and my major is Health Science on a Pre-Pa Track. At this moment, I am involved in the PSO club on campus. You can always catch me in the dining room working on my homework, getting my favorite coffee at Opus, working out at crunch, or teaching yoga at Depot Park.
One of my favorite activities is practicing yoga. I started my journey practicing yoga in 8th grade. The first class I ever took was called yoga shred, which is 25 minutes of HIIT, 10 minutes of abs, and 25 minutes of yoga. After that, I began practicing yoga more and fell in love with this new hobby of mine. I feel that yoga has brought much peace and balance to my life.
In my junior year in high school, I began working at the front desk at my local studio, Yoga Mix in Neptune Beach. I got to know my co-workers and they convinced me to get my yoga 200-hour certification at Yoga Den in Mandarin. This certification took 9 months and occurred every other Saturday from 7:30 in the morning to 4:30 in the afternoon. I learned every single yoga posture, breath, and meditation. This was a cool experience because I was able to get my certification with one of my best friends, and I met so many people who helped shaped my yoga path and an instructor. In December of 2019, I got my certification and began teaching yoga classes at Yoga Mix in January of 2020. The first class I taught was a power hour. Teaching yoga was so cool because I was able to help shape my client’s own yoga journey.
After I moved to Gainesville, I stopped teaching yoga, and I planned on only teaching classes over Thanksgiving and Christmas break. However, I was asked to teach a yoga class for a sisterhood event at depot park. I was surprised by the turnout of girls that came to my class and was excited to hear that they all enjoyed it. Teaching this class gave me the idea to begin teaching weekly classes on my own so that I could continue to share my love of yoga with my friends.
Staring this semester, I began to teach classes twice a week at depot park, and a lot of my friends in ADPI have come to support me. My goal in teaching these classes is to share what yoga has taught me with my friends in ADPI. I feel that yoga has brought so much balance in my life and has taught me to appreciate the little blessings in life, so I want to share those things with all of my sorority sisters.
